Well, every now and then real life gets in the way and you miss
something. Unfortunately, it seems like whenever that happens you
miss something that was really, really special. And tonight, that was
the first set for me. Damn. Baby Hold On, Oliver, and a Black Magic
Woman debut?!? Are you kidding me? Aaaaaargh! From what I was told,
there was a nice tight jam in Lonely Girl and the segue from Black
Magic Woman into Head Inside was incredible. And there was a big fat
Fame to close out the first set. Again I say DAMN!

But I was able to catch the second set, and if it was any indication I
really really really missed out on a hot first set. On The Run had a
surprisingly active jam in it. And when Aaron from WBPN got up to jam
he really laid it down on Take Me To The River. It was awesome seeing
8 people up on stage rocking out with Al on the keys and Scotty
dancing like his pants were on fire for Slippery People. Come Home is
really coming into its own and I love it. The slow reggae feel just
grooves along and makes you want to move. Ring Of Fire was another
debut, and they really tore it up! Aaron is quite the guitar player
and it showed here. Waft started out a little slow but things got
going pretty quickly. And just when I thought it was a thing of the
past, they jammed out a big Funky Town in the middle! No lyrics, but
they jammed pretty much the whole song and then brought it back to
Waft with a fiery vengeance. Then there was a quick encore break, and
they came back with one funky-ass Electric Shoes to close out the
evening.

I'd like to say a great big thanks to Todd and Dawn and Ben for
helping provide a setlist and some detail about what I missed (D'oh).
Thanks, guys!
